Turns out I may have been onto something

Think you know M.E.?

Anyone can get ME/CFS.
While most common in people between 40 and 60 years old, the illness affects children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. Among adults, women are affected more often than men.
White persons are diagnosed more than other races and ethnicities. But here's the rub: Many people with ME/CFS have not been diagnosed, especially among people from racial and ethnic minority groups. How many are we missing?

Confession

I have a confession about having a chronic illness. It changes the dynamic of every relationship.
You asked me how I'm doing.  I answered 'same old, same old' because I knew your question was obligatory rather than genuine. I've tried transparency. That didn't work.
It's hard for me to lie, so instead, I tend to give an empty answer.  I want to be honest,  but I've learned that you aren't looking for honesty.  You're looking to feel comforted by my response. You've placed the weight of YOUR comfort above mine. Every time you reinforce that truth, you add another degree of separation between us.
When our connection dissolves, I won't carry that burden. It's not mine to carry. It's yours. Even if you won't acknowledge it.
